Sony reports 84.2 million PS5 console units have been sold since launch
The PlayStation 5 remains an immensely popular console, with Sony reporting nearly 4 million units sold in the second quarter of its 2025 fiscal year. Lifetime sales of the console have now reached just over 84 million units.
Sony released its Q2 2025 earnings report earlier than expected on November 10, 2025. The report provided valuable insight into the company’s performance during the second quarter, revealing that the PlayStation 5 sold 3.9 million units in Q2 alone. This brings the total number of units sold since the console’s launch to 84.2 million.
For comparison, Sony sold 3.8 million PlayStation 5 consoles in Q2 of its 2024 fiscal year. This quarter’s sales represent an increase of approximately 100,000 units compared to Q2 FY2024. A similar improvement was observed between Q1 FY2024 and Q1 FY2025.
The report also highlighted a change in PlayStation Network activity. Monthly active users on the platform decreased to 119 million in Q2, down from 123 million recorded in Q1. Despite this decline in active users, first-party software sales saw growth, increasing by 1 million units compared to Q2 FY2024.
Overall, the PlayStation 5 continues to demonstrate strong sales performance, even as user engagement on the network fluctuates.
