Intel files lawsuit against ex-employee who allegedly copied 18,000 company files & disappeared
Intel has launched a lawsuit against a former employee who is suspected of carrying out a serious act of corporate sabotage. According to Intel, ex-employee Jinfeng Luo copied approximately 18,000 files from corporate servers before disappearing.
The company is seeking about $250,000 in damages in the lawsuit, which has been filed in Seattle District Court. This legal action was first reported by The Oregonian news outlet.
Intel states that Luo was among the employees set to be laid off by the end of 2025. He was informed of his termination on July 7, with his employment officially ending on July 31. Following this, Intel alleges that Luo attempted to access company hardware multiple times. After being locked out by security when he first plugged in an external drive, he reportedly succeeded about five days later by using another storage device to copy the files.
Some of the files allegedly taken by Luo are said to include “top secret” or “confidential” company materials. This unauthorized data transfer triggered an internal investigation by Intel.
Over the past few months, Intel has attempted to contact Luo at three different addresses on file to determine exactly what information he accessed or took. So far, Luo has not been located at any of these addresses, and his current whereabouts remain unknown.
