Catsimatidis, Paterson continue to rip Sliwa over NYC mayor’s race: ‘Just shooting off his mouth’

City billionaire and WABC radio owner John Catsimatidis and former Governor David Paterson took turns over the weekend criticizing former show host Curtis Sliwa for “shooting off his mouth” and allegedly ruining the mayoral race.

Sliwa, the Republican candidate for mayor, only received 7% of the vote in last week’s election. Prior to the vote, critics had urged him to drop out of the race to help centrist Democrat Andrew Cuomo challenge the eventual winner, radical Democratic Socialist Zohran Mamdani.

“I was very disappointed in Curtis—how he was just shooting off his mouth,” said Catsimatidis, host of 77 WABC’s “Cats Roundtable,” on Sunday. “I have known him for a long time. He’s a good person. But I was disappointed.” Catsimatidis was among those who tried to persuade Sliwa, his former radio host employee, to suspend his campaign and back Cuomo. Sliwa refused.

Paterson also piled on Sliwa on Sunday. “He didn’t even talk about the issues in the last couple of weeks. He talked about himself. And he talked himself into 7% of the total vote,” Paterson said of the Guardian Angels founder. “Curtis has really got to start thinking about what he says when he opens his mouth these days. Because he’s really antagonized a lot of people and didn’t help the possibility [of Cuomo winning].”

President Trump, the de facto head of the Republican Party, weighed in as well. He said Sliwa had no shot at winning and that his presence in the race would only benefit Mamdani. Trump went on to endorse Cuomo, stating he preferred a “bad Democrat” over a “communist.”

Sliwa, however, scoffed at all the criticism in an interview with The Post. He pointed out that Democratic nominee and now Mayor-elect Mamdani received just over 50% of the vote, meaning the extremist mayor-elect would have won against Cuomo regardless.

“They can’t add. They must have failed math in school. They need remedial math,” Sliwa said of Catsimatidis and Paterson. “If every one of my supporters voted for Cuomo, Mamdani still would have won. Shame on [Catsimatidis and Paterson]. I deserve an apology.”

In response to the backlash, Sliwa said he won’t return to WABC radio after Catsimatidis and his hosts turned against him and appeared to do Cuomo’s bidding. He even claimed he will never listen to WABC radio again.

“I listen to WOR radio,” Sliwa said.

When asked about his future employment prospects, Sliwa remained optimistic: “We’ll be fine.”
