Liverpool’s latest contract talks confirm BOMBSHELL transfer stance

Liverpool’s latest round of contract talks has provided a fascinating insight into the club’s priorities. After making bold moves in the transfer market last summer, it now appears that Liverpool are poised to take similarly decisive steps with regards to their current squad. No one’s position is safe, as far as we know.

### Contract Extensions: Who’s Next?

Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch are reportedly in line to receive offers to extend their stay on Merseyside, with Fabrizio Romano suggesting the feeling between both players and the club is positive. While there’s a lot to glean from negotiations with these two stars, it’s equally telling to examine who Liverpool are not engaging with at this stage.

### Is Mac Allister at Risk of Leaving?

Back in summer 2023, Liverpool invested heavily in their midfield, bringing in four new faces: Wataru Endo, Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Ryan Gravenberch. The deal for Endo was four years—shorter than the five-year contracts for the others—primarily due to his age, with Endo approaching 30 at the time, making the length of his contract appropriate.

A decision will eventually need to be made on whether Endo stays beyond 2027. For now, it seems likely his time at Liverpool could come to a natural end, either with a small transfer fee or as a free agent.

In contrast, both Gravenberch and Szoboszlai are set to extend their stays beyond 2028, which is fantastic news for the club. But where does that leave Mac Allister?

### Mixed Signals Over Mac Allister’s Future

Alexis Mac Allister is also contracted until 2028. Until recently, some might have predicted that Liverpool could afford to let him go, especially with Real Madrid reportedly interested and a potential transfer fee approaching £100m being discussed.

His performances at the start of this season were underwhelming, and his form at the end of the last campaign was similarly disappointing. It was hard to pinpoint the issue—he just didn’t seem himself on the pitch. Rumours that Liverpool were considering moves for midfielders like Adam Wharton and Elliot Anderson suggested that the 26-year-old Mac Allister could make way for new faces.

However, his recent displays against Aston Villa and Real Madrid have been superb, and many fans’ doubts have been put to rest. Of course, Mac Allister needs to maintain these standards moving forward, but current suggestions that Liverpool should sell him are now wide of the mark.

### Liverpool’s Approach: Wait and See

Despite his recent resurgence, Liverpool aren’t rushing to extend Mac Allister’s deal. Nothing has been ruled out, but the prevailing sense is that his long-term future might not be as secure as Szoboszlai and Gravenberch’s. Given Mac Allister is older than both, it may be prudent for Liverpool to monitor his progress through this season. He is under contract until 2028, so there’s no immediate pressure—but a decision will need to be made eventually. At present, the outlook is uncertain.
