‘My heart was in my throat’: Ameowzing volunteers successfully save cat tied to a rope hiding under a busy highway, showing the difficulty and danger before the heartwarming rescue
We often share stories about cats after they’ve been rescued, but what about the actual process of saving them? The rescue itself can be a challenging and delicate task.
Sometimes, cats are domesticated and come right up to you, making the rescue straightforward. Other times, they are feral or frightened, increasing the risk they will escape before you can bring them to safety. This risk is especially high when the scared stray is near a busy road or, even worse, a highway.
These roadside rescues are some of the most dangerous and difficult. Usually, rescuers get only one shot to safely capture the cat. Missing that chance can have heartbreaking consequences.
In the video below, animal rescue volunteers carefully surround a frightened kitty tied to a rope and hiding at the edge of a highway filled with speeding cars. They approach slowly, patiently, and calmly. One volunteer manages to grab the rope, preventing the cat from escaping.
Eventually, they get the cat into a carrier, securing it safely in their care. The cat was clearly once someone’s pet, so all we can hope is that it finds a loving home soon.
After watching the clip, please join us in giving a round of “appaws” to all the everyday heroes who dedicate themselves to rescuing cats like this. They truly are angels in “hooman” form!
