In a historic achievement, Smriti Mandhana became the first Indian woman cricketer to score consecutive centuries in One Day Internationals (ODIs) twice. This remarkable milestone was reached during India’s third WODI against Australia at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Saturday.
Mandhana’s explosive innings of 125 runs off just 63 balls set a record-breaking tone for the match. Despite her stellar performance, India fell short in the chase of a massive 413-run target, finishing at 369 all out.

With back-to-back centuries across matches, Mandhana now shares a unique distinction with England’s Tammy Beaumont—both have achieved consecutive WODI hundreds twice. According to ESPNcricinfo, no other batter in women’s cricket history has recorded multiple occasions of back-to-back WODI tons.
Mandhana had previously smashed a breathtaking 117 off 91 balls in the second WODI in Mullanpur. Last year, she also notched successive hundreds against South Africa, underlining her consistency and prowess at the crease.
### Record-Breaking Innings
Mandhana’s century in this match was particularly special as it came off just 50 balls. This is the fastest ODI hundred by an Indian woman and the second-fastest in the history of women’s ODIs, only behind Australia’s Meg Lanning, who struck a 45-ball hundred against New Zealand in 2012-13.
Her 50-ball ton also broke the previous fastest century record held by former Australian batter Karen Rolton, who scored a 57-ball hundred in the 2000-01 series against South Africa. Incidentally, Australia’s Beth Mooney hit a 57-ball century in the same Delhi WODI match.
Additionally, with this knock, Mandhana equaled New Zealand’s Suzie Bates for the most ODI centuries by a woman with 13 tons. She also currently holds the record for the most WODI centuries by a designated opener with 13 hundreds.
### Match Outcome: India’s Record Chase Falls Short
Despite Mandhana’s heroics, India’s chase of a world-record 413 runs fell short. The team was bowled out for 369 in 47 overs, 43 runs shy of the target. A late eighth-wicket partnership between Deepti Sharma and Sneh Rana provided some hope, but the innings ultimately collapsed after Sharma’s dismissal.
