“Thanks for saving my broke life” – Dijonai Carrington sends touching birthday note to Cheryl Reeve for giving her shot with Lynx after Wings trade

DiJonai Carrington’s run this season has been a rollercoaster ride. The former Connecticut Sun guard began the year as a Dallas Wings player after the Sun traded her to Dallas in February. During her time in Dallas, she played alongside WNBA star rookie Paige Bueckers. However, in August, the Wings traded the 2024 Most Improved Player to the Minnesota Lynx, where she has since become a key contributor to the team’s success.
On Saturday, DiJonai Carrington sent warm birthday wishes to Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve. She shared a picture with Reeve on her Instagram story, crediting her for “saving my life.” In the caption, Carrington wrote, “happy birthday! thanks for saving my brokelifeperiodt.”
The transition to Minnesota came after a challenging stretch in Dallas. Carrington struggled on the floor, experiencing a drop-off in performance on all levels compared to her MIP award-winning season last year. While with the Wings, she played 20 games and started 13, carrying the burden of a bottom-tier team alongside Paige Bueckers.
The streak of consecutive losses significantly impacted her confidence. However, since arriving in Minnesota, Carrington has returned to a bench role — a position where she truly excels. She has appeared in 11 games for the Lynx, starting just once, and is currently averaging 8.6 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game.
### DiJonai Carrington Reveals Secret to Her Resurgence
Carrington’s career trajectory began to improve notably after joining the Lynx. Following a 15-point performance that helped secure an 83-71 victory over the New York Liberty on August 10, she shared the secret to her resurgence.
“I am just getting back to playing how I know how to play,” Carrington told reporters. “Just playing free, and within a flow, not forcing anything. Nobody forces anything, so it just makes it easier to get open shots because we’re gonna keep moving it until we get a great shot.”
She also credited her teammates for their relentless effort on the court, which has allowed her to focus more on her own game.
“It’s just playing hard. I’m able to really lock in on the ball and whoever I’m guarding because I trust that behind me, everyone will be there rotating and they’ll have my back if I do get clipped. As long as everyone’s doing it at 100% effort, I feel like we’re going to be great.”
DiJonai Carrington is set to suit up for the Lynx next on Sunday in Game 1 of the semifinals series against the Phoenix Mercury. Fans will be watching to see if she can continue her impressive bounce-back and help lead Minnesota deep into the playoffs.
