D&D Review – Starter Set & Stranger Things Collab
Wizards of the Coast recently rolled out two exciting new sets for Dungeons & Dragons: the Starter Set and *Stranger Things: Welcome to the Hellfire Club*. I had the opportunity to review both during the latest episode of *Pop! Goes the Culture!*. Below is a clipped segment from the review where I discuss these sets in detail.
The **Starter Set** essentially turns Dungeons & Dragons into a more conventional tabletop game. It lowers the barrier to entry like never before by including pre-made characters, cards for common spells and items, and multiple maps. This makes it easier for new players to jump right in and start playing without feeling overwhelmed.
On the other hand, *Stranger Things: Welcome to the Hellfire Club* takes a similar approach but adds a unique twist with its Stranger Things theme—specifically, an ’80s vibe. This set features character sheets based on the characters portrayed by the actors in the Netflix show, along with a map inspired by the world from their campaign.
Additionally, the Hellfire Club set introduces new monsters, such as the Demogorgon Dragon. All of this is wrapped in a vintage 1980s aesthetic, giving D&D 5th Edition a distinct retro feel that fans of both the game and the show will appreciate.
Both sets provide fresh and accessible ways to experience Dungeons & Dragons, whether you’re a newcomer or an established player looking for something nostalgic and fun.
