Dodgers’ Blake Snell opens up about ‘unlucky’ Game 5 start
The Los Angeles Dodgers fell behind the Toronto Blue Jays early in Game 5 of the World Series. Blake Snell allowed two home runs to Toronto’s first two hitters of the game, putting the Dodgers in an early hole. Unfortunately, Los Angeles could not recover, and the defending World Series champions are now one game away from falling short in their title defense.
Snell pitched 6.2 innings on Wednesday night at Dodger Stadium. However, his performance was far from his best. He allowed five runs on six hits against the Blue Jays. While he struck out seven batters, he also walked four, contributing to the Dodgers’ loss in Game 5.
After the game, Snell addressed questions about his start. He was quick to avoid making excuses but acknowledged a lack of luck on the mound during this outing. “I’m not one to make excuses or anything close to that. But yeah, it’s just pretty unlucky. Only so much you can do. And that’s baseball,” he said in a clip shared by SportsNet LA.
Reporters also noted an interesting trend early in the game following the two home runs. Snell notably did not throw a fastball for 22 pitches after Vladimir Guerrero Jr.’s home run in the first inning. While he didn’t provide a clear explanation for this adjustment, he emphasized his confidence and trust in himself throughout the second half of his outing.
“I felt good, I feel strong. I’ve been training to be ready for this and be strong. I felt good, I trust me,” Snell stated.
The Dodgers now find themselves up against the wall, facing elimination. However, they have reason to remain optimistic heading into Game 6. Los Angeles is expected to send Yoshinobu Yamamoto to the mound, with their season on the line. Yamamoto has been dominant throughout the postseason, and the Dodgers will need his best effort on Friday night in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, to keep their championship hopes alive.
