NYPD detective, ‘loving’ mom of 3 dies in Colombia week after butt lift procedure
**NYPD Detective and Mother of Three Dies a Week After Cosmetic Surgery in Colombia**
An NYPD detective and loving mother of three tragically passed away just one week after undergoing a butt lift and liposuction procedure in Colombia. Her grieving husband has since requested an investigation into her sudden and unexpected death, according to sources and reports.
Det. Alicia Stone, 40, a 13-year veteran of the NYPD and member of the department’s Internal Affairs Bureau, was found unresponsive in her hotel room in Cali around 6:30 a.m. on Thursday. She was immediately rushed to Fundación Valle del Lili Hospital but was pronounced dead just over an hour later. Authorities listed her cause of death as “unspecified cardiac arrest,” sources said.
Stone had undergone a liposuction and gluteal fat transfer procedure in Colombia on October 16, just one week before her passing. Following the surgery, she was prescribed anticoagulants and pain medication as part of her post-operative care plan and was transferred to a hotel to recover.
Michael Stone, her husband, told The Daily News that he intends to request an autopsy to uncover the facts surrounding her death. “The doctor who called me from Colombia just told me my wife had passed away,” Michael shared. “She didn’t provide much information when I asked her questions. Something just doesn’t add up.”
“The news of her passing was shocking and deeply hurtful,” he added. “I don’t have the facts, and that’s what I need—the facts of what happened.”
Michael recalled that Alicia seemed “perfectly fine” before her procedure and had told relatives the day before she died that she was feeling alright.
A fundraiser set up for Stone’s family described her as a “loving mother of three and a dedicated public servant who spent her career protecting and serving others.” The organizer added, “Alicia’s kindness, courage, and compassion touched everyone she met, both in and out of uniform. Her unexpected passing has left a tremendous void in the lives of her family, friends, and fellow officers.”
The gluteal fat transfer procedure, commonly known as a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL), involves transferring fat from other parts of the body to enhance the size and shape of the buttocks, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. However, experts warn that rare but serious complications—such as a fat embolism occurring from fat injected into the muscles—can lead to death.
Following Stone’s death, authorities have reached out to the Colombian National Police, the U.S. State Department, and consular services officials to aid in the investigation. Michael Stone also reported that an NYPD detective was sent to Colombia to look into his wife’s passing.
Family members have not yet responded to requests for comment.
