As the parent of a Lewiston Middle School student with special needs, I will be voting for Marcel Leclair for School Committee at-large representative.

Marcel would be an advocate for all students and parents whose voices often get lost in the shuffle of numbers and competing priorities, no matter what their concerns may be. His experience as a parent and grandparent who has actively advocated for his special-needs grandchild gives him an important perspective that is desperately needed on the School Committee.

As a member of the LGBTQ community, I fully support Marcel’s position on keeping girls’ and boys’ private spaces and sports separate in schools. Many children have felt uncomfortable with the mixed-sex bathrooms at LMS, and current policies—though well-intentioned—have created discomfort and confusion rather than respect and support.

Our children should not be treated as props for adults’ agendas. Let them be kids!
