MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (AP) — The first half was shaky. The second half was all Miami.

Mark Fletcher Jr. rushed for 106 yards and a career-high three touchdowns, Miami’s defense was airtight for much of the game, and the ninth-ranked Hurricanes pulled away for a dominant 42-7 win over Stanford on Saturday night.

Carson Beck, coming off the first four-interception game of his career last week in a loss to Louisville, bounced back to complete 21 of 28 passes for 189 yards and a touchdown to CJ Daniels. Jordan Lyle and Girard Pringle Jr. also contributed rushing touchdowns for Miami (6-1, 2-1 Atlantic Coast Conference).

This victory marked Miami’s largest margin of victory in an ACC game since beating Duke 47-10 on November 27, 2021.

“Mark Fletcher showed why he’s such a great player and why he’s so important to this football team,” Miami coach Mario Cristobal said.

Miami scored touchdowns on six of its last seven possessions. The only drive in that stretch where they failed to score ended with the Hurricanes being stopped on a fourth-down attempt at the Stanford 21-yard line.

“Proud of the way our guys stuck with it,” Cristobal added.

Malachi Toney had an impressive performance with 138 all-purpose yards, including 73 yards on a pair of punt returns.

Miami’s balanced attack produced 205 passing yards and 199 rushing yards, outgaining Stanford 404-144 overall.

“That right there was the standard for University of Miami football,” Toney said.

For Stanford (3-5, 2-3), Cole Tabb rushed for 64 yards in the first-ever meeting between the Hurricanes and the Cardinal.

Ben Gulbranson accounted for Stanford’s only touchdown. He completed five of his first six passes for 31 yards before going 4-for-15 with two interceptions and just 19 yards the rest of the way.

Stanford led 7-0 after the first quarter and the score was tied 7-7 at halftime. However, the Hurricanes dominated the second half, outscoring the Cardinal 35-0.

In a reversal of the 1984 game when then-Maryland quarterback and current Stanford interim coach Frank Reich rallied his team from a 31-0 halftime deficit to win 42-40 against Miami, this time the Hurricanes controlled the final 30 minutes.

Stanford managed only 25 total yards on their final eight possessions after a strong opening drive that yielded 74 yards and a touchdown.

“I thought our defense did a pretty good job in the first half … and then they got after us real good in the second half,” Reich said.

**Takeaways**

**Stanford:** Cardinal general manager Andrew Luck praised Reich’s work during an in-game interview with ESPN. Stanford continues to search for a head coach for 2026 and beyond.

“Coach Reich’s doing an amazing job and he’s given this team everything he has. I think the head coach at Stanford football is an amazing job and we’ll find the right person,” Luck said.

Reich expressed his enjoyment of the season, saying, “These guys are special.”

**Miami:** Defensive lineman Akheem Mesidor, who was shaken up in last week’s Louisville game, did not play on Saturday, ending his streak of 19 consecutive starts over the past two seasons. Mesidor entered the weekend with 26.5 career sacks, the second-most among active FBS players.
