Obituary: Wayne L. Butler
SABATTUS — Wayne L. Butler, 67, of Sabattus, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2025, at his residence following a medical event.
Wayne was born on Dec. 1, 1957, in Waterville, the son of Percy L. Butler Jr. and Priscilla (Powell) Butler. He graduated from Dirigo High School and went on to serve in the U.S. Air Force, spending the majority of his service in the Philippines at Clark Air Force Base. During his time there, a volcanic eruption forced the evacuation of the base, but Wayne stayed behind to help support the remaining personnel and assist with the closure of the base. He formed many lasting friendships during his service at Clark AFB, friendships he continued to cherish throughout his life.
After his military service, Wayne worked for several years in small engine repair before building a successful career in information technology. He worked at NewPage as an IT Process Leader and later served as the Director of IT at Sunday River.
For many years, Wayne made his home at a peaceful house on Canton Lake, a place that brought him immense happiness and tranquility. Even after moving away, the camp remained close to his heart—a cherished retreat where he was known for his skill at the grill, often bringing family and friends together over perfectly cooked meals and laughter-filled evenings around the fire rock.
In his earlier years, Wayne spent countless hours restoring vintage vehicles. Over time, he kept a few cherished cars in his collection until he eventually had to part with them, though his love for classic cars never faded.
Wayne was also an enthusiast of Ham Radio. To those who knew him, his call sign was KC6PLR.
He is survived by his children: John Suan of Charlotte, N.C.; Erika Bechard and husband Kevin of Lisbon Falls; Percy Butler IV and wife Felicia of Guam; and Eva Butler of the Philippines. He also leaves behind eight grandchildren: Lily Small, Camden Bechard, Percy Butler V, Ruby Butler, Gia Butler, Kenneth Butler, Katherine Butler, and Kristine Butler.
Wayne is further survived by his siblings: Donna Herrick and husband Edward of Sumner; Timothy Butler and wife Susan of Honolulu, Hawaii; James Butler of Jay; Rhonda Morin and husband Raymond of New Gloucester; Kevin Butler and wife Tina of Menifee, California; and Percy L. Butler III of Lewiston.
He was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Allison Butler.
Wayne’s family and friends will remember him for his dedication, kindness, and the joy he brought to those around him. His legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
