Dept of War Announces Deployment of Gerald Ford Carrier Strike Group to the Caribbean, in Support of Drug Interdiction Efforts
As the U.S. military intensifies its efforts against drug vessels operated by Venezuelan Transnational Criminal Organizations (TCOs), the Department of War is deploying an entire U.S. Carrier Strike Group to the region. The Gerald R. Ford Carrier Strike Group is pictured below.
The announcement was made by Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell. In support of the President’s directive to dismantle Transnational Criminal Organizations and combat narco-terrorism in defense of the homeland, the Secretary of War has ordered the Gerald R. Ford Carrier Strike Group, along with its embarked carrier air wing, to the U.S. Southern Command (USSOUTHCOM) area of responsibility (AOR).
This enhanced U.S. force presence in the USSOUTHCOM AOR will significantly boost the United States’ capacity to detect, monitor, and disrupt illicit actors and activities that threaten the safety and prosperity of the homeland and U.S. security throughout the Western Hemisphere. These forces will augment existing capabilities aimed at disrupting narcotics trafficking and degrading and dismantling TCOs.
WASHINGTON D.C. — The arrival of the U.S.S. Gerald R. Ford, the Navy’s newest and most advanced aircraft carrier, accompanied by several destroyers and a submarine, will add to what is already the world’s largest naval deployment.
Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell announced the deployment on X, stating that it “will bolster U.S. capacity to detect, monitor, and disrupt illicit actors and activities that compromise the safety and prosperity of the United States homeland and our security in the Western Hemisphere.”
This naval force will complement the 10,000 troops and a dozen F-35 fighters that have been deployed to the region over the past several weeks, further strengthening U.S. efforts to counter narcotics trafficking and narco-terrorism.
