Wild New Footage Captures Thieves Making Slow Getaway After $100 Million Jewel Heist at the Louvre

Dramatic new footage has emerged showing the audacious thieves who stole $100 million worth of precious jewels from the Louvre making a slow, deliberate escape using a mobile lift. The video, reportedly filmed from inside the world-famous museum in Paris, captures two men — one wearing a neon vest and the other donning a motorcycle helmet — in the basket of a construction lift as it slowly lowers to the ground.

The thieves appeared remarkably unhurried as they descended from the second floor of the museum on the lift, which was attached to a stolen truck parked outside. Once they reached the ground, the men disappeared from view before allegedly fleeing the scene on motorized scooters, French police stated.

According to The Telegraph, the footage was recorded overlooking the Seine on Sunday and quickly circulated across social media platforms.

French Authorities Search for Suspects in Historic Heist

French authorities are currently hunting for four suspects involved in this unprecedented heist. The criminal group reportedly swiped eight priceless pieces of jewelry within a matter of minutes, targeting masterpieces worth millions.

Police described the “commando of four people” brazenly parking a stolen truck outside the Louvre. They then used the attached construction lift to access a second-floor window. After cutting through the glass with an angle grinder, the group made their way into the museum’s renowned Apollon Gallery.

Alarm Triggered but Mistakenly Routed

The security breach set off an alarm, but it was mistakenly routed only to guards responsible for visitor safety, delaying the museum’s response.

Inside, visitors watched in disbelief as the suspects casually cut through the glass case protecting one of the prized jewels. The robbers attempted to burn the mobile ladder to cover their tracks but failed, fleeing hastily and accidentally dropping an emerald-set imperial crown adorned with over 1,300 diamonds. This crown famously once belonged to Empress Eugenie.

Abandoned Stolen Truck and Evidence Left Behind

The stolen truck, commonly used for moving furniture, was abandoned at the scene along with its keys. The thieves made their getaway on motorized scooters, leaving behind a motorcycle helmet and a glove, which police recovered and are now examining, according to reports from Le Parisien newspaper.
