Knicks’ Guerschon Yabusele’s among the NBA’s heaviest after offseason bulk

Guerschon Yabusele is entering this season with considerably more heft than last year. The new Knicks forward now weighs in at 283 pounds, which is 18 pounds more than he was a season ago with the 76ers.

“I did not ask him to put on weight or take off weight,” coach Mike Brown said. “That’s something that our performance people talk to him about.”

Yabusele was one of the key offseason additions to fortify the Knicks’ bench, alongside Jordan Clarkson. The 6-foot-8 forward averaged 11.0 points and 5.6 rebounds in 70 games last season. He is now the heaviest Knick on a roster that features two 7-footers.

In fact, Yabusele is also one of the heaviest players in the league, alongside notable big men like Zach Edey (305 pounds), Jusuf Nurkic (290 pounds), and Nikola Jokic (284 pounds).

Despite the increased size, Yabusele didn’t have an overly impressive preseason. He averaged 4.8 points, 3.2 rebounds, and shot 31 percent from the field across five games, playing a total of 17.4 minutes.

The Knicks signed the French forward to a two-year, $12 million deal during the offseason, hoping he will bolster their frontcourt depth.

In other team news, Karl-Anthony Towns practiced fully after missing Friday’s preseason finale due to a quad injury. “Just getting ready for the season,” he said.
