Rain played spoilsport in Match 16 of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Wednesday. Pakistan were dominant against England and appeared well set for a win. However, the weather had other plans, and rain ultimately denied Pakistan a victory.
England initially struggled, slipping to 79/7 after 25 overs before rain interrupted play. The match was then reduced to 31 overs per side. After the resumption, England managed to reach 133/9, recovering from 75/5 in the six overs they batted post-rain.
In response, Pakistan’s openers began positively, scoring 34 runs in 6.4 overs towards their revised target of 113. Unfortunately for Pakistan, the rain returned and the match was called off, resulting in a no result.
**Match Highlights**
England struggled with wickets falling at regular intervals, allowing Pakistan to maintain a strong grip on the game before rain intervened. Charlie Dean stood out as England’s top scorer with 33 runs.
For Pakistan, skipper Fatima Sana was the star with the ball, claiming an impressive 4 wickets for 27 runs in 6 overs. Sadia Iqbal also bowled well, taking 2 wickets for 16 runs from her six overs, including two maidens.
**Standings Update**
England currently lead the tournament standings. After four matches, they remain unbeaten with 7 points and a superior net run rate (NRR) of +1.864, edging out Australia in second place.
Meanwhile, Pakistan find themselves at the bottom of the table, having earned just one point from three matches (one no result, three losses).
As the tournament progresses, both teams will be looking to build on their performances and improve their positions in the race for the title.
