Mumbai all-rounder Shivam Dube has been ruled out of Mumbai’s first Ranji Trophy match against Jammu and Kashmir, scheduled to begin on Wednesday in Srinagar, due to back stiffness.
According to ESPNcricinfo, Dube traveled with the team initially but returned to Mumbai after experiencing discomfort. The cold weather conditions in Jammu and Kashmir reportedly aggravated his back stiffness, prompting the decision to rest.
**Recovery Hopes and Future Prospects**
A source from the Mumbai Cricket Association informed *The Indian Express* that the team’s medical staff advised Dube to rest. He returned to Mumbai on Tuesday night and the team is optimistic about his recovery.
Despite missing the Ranji opener, Dube is hopeful to be fit in time for India’s upcoming T20 series against Australia, which kicks off on October 23. His presence in the squad is considered vital given his all-round skills.
**Impact of Dube’s Absence on the Team**
Shivam Dube’s absence will be felt, especially considering his recent contributions. He played a key role in India’s Asia Cup victory last month, known for his ability to hit sixes—particularly against spinners—making him a dangerous lower-order batsman.
While Dube has been part of the Indian T20 setup, he has also consistently featured in Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy squad over the past couple of seasons. Mumbai will also welcome back middle-order batsman Musheer Khan ahead of the tournament.
**Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy Outlook**
Mumbai is competing in Elite Group D, alongside Hyderabad, Delhi, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Pondicherry, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu & Kashmir.
The squad traveled to Jammu and Kashmir a few days ago under the leadership of new captain Shardul Thakur. Mumbai’s team boasts experienced Indian players such as Ajinkya Rahane and Sarfaraz Khan, aiming to secure a strong start to their Ranji campaign.
As Mumbai begins their quest for knockout qualification, the team will be looking for key players, including Dube, to return fit and contribute in upcoming fixtures.
