**Leicestershire Crowned County Championship Division Two Champions After Kent Washout**

Leicestershire have been crowned Division Two champions in the Rothesay County Championship, despite their final match against Kent being washed out due to rain.

### Match Abandoned Due to Weather

Early morning rain left the outfield at Uptonsteel County Ground too wet for play. After multiple pitch inspections, umpires Hassan Adnan and Simon Widdup called off any possibility of resuming the match, resulting in a complete washout.

### Title Secured and Promotion Confirmed

Although the match was abandoned, Leicestershire’s commanding 25-point lead before the last two rounds ensured their promotion as Division Two champions. This marks their return to Division One cricket next season for the first time since 2003.

While the team would have preferred to clinch the title with an on-field victory and a trophy presentation in front of their home crowd, the circumstances did not allow for it.

### Celebrations Despite the Washout

Leicestershire players celebrated their championship win with champagne and unveiled a ‘Champions’ board fashioned from part of the boundary board. The only disappointed member was veteran seamer Chris Wright, who is retiring at the end of this season. Wright had hoped for a final farewell on home soil but was denied this opportunity due to the weather.

### Season Overview: A Second Trophy in Three Seasons

Leicestershire’s campaign was hampered by weather-related draws, with four of their last six matches ending without a result. However, they had been clear favorites to win the title since late May after securing five wins from their first seven matches.

This championship title is Leicestershire’s second trophy in three seasons, following their Metro Bank One-Day Cup victory in 2023. It is also their first County Championship title since 1998.

– **Lewis Hill**: The team’s top scorer in County Division Two this season, Hill amassed 877 runs at an average of 48.72, including two centuries and six half-centuries across 13 matches (19 innings).

– **Rehan Ahmed**: Ahmed impressed with 760 runs at 50.66, featuring five centuries and one fifty.

– **Ian Holland**: Leading the bowling attack, Holland claimed 35 wickets in 11 matches at an average of 19.62.
