SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — The San Diego Police Department announced Monday the arrest of the suspected shooter involved in a 2021 homicide in the Bay Terraces community that left 23-year-old Reginald Mitchell dead.

Authorities identified the suspect; however, since the individual was a juvenile at the time of the shooting, their identity is being withheld. The suspect was already in custody on an unrelated charge and is now also facing murder charges in connection with Mitchell’s death.

On July 21, 2021, officers responded to a call about a foul odor coming from a vehicle parked near Casey Street and Appian Drive. Upon arrival, officers found Reginald Mitchell deceased inside the vehicle. Authorities noted that one of the vehicle’s windows had apparent gunshot damage.

Witnesses reported that a man had been living out of the vehicle for several months, and gunshots had been heard in the area recently.
