At least 15 people have lost their lives after a massive landslide buried a bus under debris in Himachal Pradesh’s Bilaspur district late Tuesday evening.
According to Bilaspur Deputy Commissioner Rahul Kumar, three individuals have been rescued alive from the wreckage. The private bus was carrying more than 30 passengers at the time of the incident, although the exact number is still being confirmed.
The tragic event took place near Ballu Bridge when a large chunk of mud and rocks slid down a hillside, directly colliding with the bus. A policeman present at the scene described the calamity to news agency PTI, saying, “The whole mountain came crashing down on the bus.” He further noted, “Chances of survival of passengers are bleak,” highlighting the severity of the landslide. The force of the landslide was so intense that it completely buried the vehicle under tons of debris.
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy and is closely monitoring rescue efforts. In a statement on X (formerly Twitter), the CM wrote, “In this massive landslide, tragic news has come of 10 people losing their lives after a private bus was caught in it.” He also confirmed that he remains in constant contact with local authorities to stay updated on the rescue operations.
Rescue teams are currently working tirelessly to locate any survivors and recover the victims from the site. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
