In a heated exchange during a warm-up fixture in Pune, Maharashtra opener Prithvi Shaw found himself in a scuffle with his former Mumbai teammates. The incident occurred shortly after Shaw, representing Maharashtra, scored a brilliant century against his old side.
### The Incident
On Day 1 of the match, Shaw delivered a stellar innings, compiling 181 runs off 220 balls, including 21 fours and 3 sixes. His innings was highlighted by a massive 305-run opening partnership with Arshin Kulkarni, who contributed 186 runs.
However, tensions flared when Musheer Khan dismissed Shaw. Immediately following his dismissal, Shaw reportedly charged toward Musheer with his bat in anger, according to *The Times of India*. Earlier in the match, Shaw had been subjected to intense sledging, which may have contributed to the altercation.
Umpires quickly intervened to separate the players before Shaw and former Mumbai teammate Siddhesh Lad were seen exchanging heated words. This episode unfortunately overshadowed what had been a fantastic batting display by Shaw.
### Match Overview
Maharashtra declared their innings at 465/3 after 81 overs. At stumps, Mumbai was 23/1 in their first innings over seven overs.
### Shaw’s Transition to Maharashtra
Earlier this year, Shaw made a strong impression after joining Maharashtra. He marked his debut for the state with a brilliant century against Chhattisgarh during the 2025 Buchi Babu Trophy match held at Guru Nanak College in Chennai.
Shaw’s switch from Mumbai to Maharashtra came after he was dropped from Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy squad at the end of the previous season. He last played for Mumbai in December 2024.
### Career Snapshot
Prithvi Shaw, once hailed as a prodigious talent, made his international debut in 2018 as a teenager, scoring a century against the West Indies. Despite this promising start, he struggled to maintain consistency, featuring in five Tests, six ODIs, and one T20I for India before losing form around 2021.
Currently, Shaw boasts 4,556 runs from 58 First-Class matches at an average exceeding 46, along with a List A average of more than 55, reflecting his ongoing potential in domestic cricket.
