The Australia A cricket team is currently facing a health scare amid their ongoing One-Day series against India A in Kanpur. Four players have been diagnosed with stomach infections, with fast bowler Henry Thornton being the most severely affected and requiring hospitalization after his condition worsened.
The other three players received treatment and were discharged following routine medical tests, according to India Today.
### Investigation Into the Illness
Team sources have suggested that the illness may be linked to food consumed at the team’s hotel, although this has not been officially confirmed by hospital authorities or the team management.
The local team manager reported that four players were initially taken to the hospital for examination. While three were cleared after their reports came back normal, Thornton exhibited signs of a severe infection and has been kept under observation.
### Precautionary Measures Taken
In response to the incident, the Australian team management has modified the players’ diet plan as a precaution. Although this change has disrupted training routines, officials emphasized that player health remains their top priority.
All four affected cricketers had participated in the first ODI of the series. The Australia A medical unit continues to monitor the situation closely and has advised players to avoid local food and water for the time being.
### Hotel Denies Responsibility; BCCI Offers Perspective
The Food Department has collected samples from the hotel kitchen for testing but did not find any contamination or irregularities in the food served.
The hotel management has denied any responsibility for the players’ illness, attributing it instead to changing weather conditions.
BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla also commented on the situation, stating that if food were the cause, all players, not just a few, would have been affected.
The Australia A team remains focused on their series against India A, with medical staff vigilant to ensure the players’ well-being moving forward.
