Controversy over remarks on Balasaheb Thackeray’s death, Shiv Sena UBT to file defamation case

**Shiv Sena UBT to File Defamation Suit Against Ramdas Kadam Over Controversial Claims on Balasaheb Thackeray’s Death**
Shiv Sena UBT leader Anil Parab announced at a press conference on Saturday, October 4, 2025, that the party will be filing a defamation suit against Shiv Sena leader Ramdas Kadam for his controversial allegations regarding the death of Sena founder Balasaheb Thackeray.
Parab dismissed Kadam’s claims as “a figment of imagination” and accused him of attempting to divert public attention from the pressing issues currently facing Maharashtra.
Meanwhile, Uddhav Thackeray refused to comment on the allegations. Speaking to reporters in Pune, he said, “I don’t respond to traitors and backstabbers, I don’t need to give a response. The entire country and the State of Maharashtra know what the Thackerays are. So I don’t need to say anything.”
Anil Parab further stated that the defamation suit would be filed soon, adding, “I will donate all the money received from the suit to farmers affected by natural disasters.” Parab also called for Ramdas Kadam to undergo a narco test concerning the circumstances surrounding his wife’s death. “How did she die?” he questioned.
Parab claimed these allegations were timed deliberately to poison public opinion against Uddhav Thackeray, especially with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections approaching.
He questioned Kadam’s past political choices, asking, “Why did Kadam agree to become a Minister from the (undivided) Shiv Sena in the Devendra Fadnavis government during 2014-19 if he truly believed Uddhav Thackeray was a bad person?” Parab also highlighted that Uddhav Thackeray had given an election ticket to Kadam’s son, Yogesh Kadam, in 2019. Yogesh Kadam presently serves as the Minister of State (Home) in the Maharashtra government.
Ramdas Kadam had earlier claimed that Balasaheb Thackeray’s body was kept at Matoshree for two days following his death. He demanded a narco test for Uddhav Thackeray to probe the events following the demise of the Hindutva leader in 2012.
Kadam raised several questions: “Why was Balasaheb’s body kept for two days? What was happening inside Matoshree? People say fingerprints were taken — but for what purpose? When was his will prepared and who signed it? All these details must come out.”
Kadam quoted doctors who treated Balasaheb Thackeray as saying that the death occurred two days earlier, but the body remained at Matoshree to take hand impressions. “Even inside Matoshree, people were discussing it,” he added.
He also claimed to have told Uddhav Thackeray to take impressions of Balasaheb’s feet, but was told that only palm impressions were made, questioning the purpose of these impressions.
Supporting Ramdas Kadam, Maharashtra minister Nitesh Rane raised queries about certain arrivals and property documents, stating, “Who was to arrive from Switzerland? And on which flight? They should provide answers. For which property and which papers?”
In response to the threat of a defamation suit by Shiv Sena UBT, Ramdas Kadam also announced his intention to file a defamation case regarding the allegations made about his wife.
This controversy has been a significant topic of discussion in Maharashtra politics over the past two days following Ramdas Kadam’s sensational claims.
