SpaceX has reached a remarkable milestone this year with its Falcon 9 rocket launching for the 125th time. The latest mission lifted off from California’s Vandenberg Space Force Base yesterday at 10:06 AM EDT (7:36 PM IST).
The Falcon 9 carried a payload of 28 Starlink satellites into low Earth orbit (LEO), continuing SpaceX’s ambitious effort to expand its satellite internet constellation.
### Successful Landing of First-Stage Booster
The first stage of the Falcon 9 rocket made a successful touchdown on SpaceX’s droneship *Of Course I Still Love You* stationed in the Pacific Ocean. This booster, designated B1097, completed its second launch and landing with this mission. Its previous flight was also a Starlink deployment, underscoring SpaceX’s commitment to reusability and cost efficiency.
### Expanding the Starlink Satellite Constellation
Over 70% of Falcon 9 launches in 2025 have been dedicated to building Starlink, the largest satellite constellation ever assembled. Currently, more than 8,500 active Starlink satellites orbit the Earth.
For perspective, the European Space Agency reports just 12,500 operational satellites of any kind orbiting the planet today. This means that roughly two out of every three functional satellites in space are part of the Starlink network — and that proportion is expected to continue growing.
SpaceX’s relentless launch cadence and satellite deployments demonstrate their leading role in shaping the future of global internet connectivity through space-based infrastructure.
