Secretary of the prestigious National Sports Club of India (NSCI), Worli, Atul Maru, has stepped down following an intense campaign for his removal. The club has been rocked by a financial scandal that came to light after a KPMG forensic audit.

An FIR was registered with the economic offences wing of the crime branch; however, the police have taken no significant action so far. In response to the stagnation, one of the club members has now approached the Bombay High Court seeking intervention.

Maru submitted his resignation during a meeting of the executive committee of the club on Saturday. Sources also revealed that the chairman, Amit Menda, tendered his resignation at the same meeting.

The developments mark a significant turning point for the NSCI as it grapples with the fallout from the financial irregularities and the resulting leadership vacuum. Further updates are expected as the legal proceedings unfold.
