Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Visit Mumbai for Landmark Inaugurations and Programs
Mumbai: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Mumbai on October 8 and 9 to inaugurate key infrastructure projects and launch initiatives aimed at boosting the city’s development and youth employment opportunities. Maharashtra’s Skill Development Minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha described the events as a “Diwali gift” to the people of Mumbai.
PM Modi’s Arrival on ‘India One’
PM Modi is expected to land at the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) around 2:30 pm on October 8 aboard the specially equipped Boeing 777 aircraft, ‘India One’, one of the most advanced VVIP planes globally. Upon arrival, he will officially inaugurate the much-anticipated NMIA.
From the same venue, the Prime Minister will virtually inaugurate the Colaba–Bandra–SEEPZ Metro Line 3 and launch a major skill development training program targeting 75,000 youths. This initiative is organized by Maharashtra’s Skill Development, Employment, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation Department.
Fintech Event and Conclusion of Visit
On October 9, PM Modi will attend a significant fintech event in Mumbai before concluding his two-day visit to the city.
Proposed Naming of Navi Mumbai International Airport
The state government has proposed naming NMIA after the late D.B. Patil, a prominent leader of the Peasants and Workers (P&W) Party, to honor his valuable contribution to the region.
Metro Line 3: Mumbai’s First Fully Underground Corridor
The upcoming inauguration of the Worli–Cuffe Parade stretch will complete the 33.5-km Metro Aqua Line, making it fully operational. This marks Mumbai’s first completely underground metro corridor, designed to offer faster, greener, and more efficient transportation options, which will significantly ease traffic congestion throughout the city.
Metro Line 3 has been launched in phases:
- The Aarey–JVLR to Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) section was inaugurated in October 2024.
- The BKC to Worli Acharya Atre Chowk stretch commenced operations in May 2025.
Both stretches have reported strong ridership, underscoring the high demand for reliable east–west and north–south connectivity.
With the addition of the Worli–Cuffe Parade section, the corridor will connect:
- 6 business districts
- 30 office hubs
- 12 educational institutions
- 11 hospitals
- 10 transport interchanges
- 25 cultural and religious landmarks
Additionally, Metro Line 3 will link directly with suburban rail networks at Churchgate and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), thereby reducing the load on Mumbai’s overcrowded Western and Central railway lines.
Transformative Leap for Mumbai
Minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha emphasized the significance of these projects, stating, “These projects will not only strengthen Mumbai’s infrastructure but also improve connectivity and create more opportunities for our youth.”
