Nine Dead, Four Cops Injured After Blast In Pakistan’s Peshawar, Authorities On Alert

The recent attack underscores the persistent threat faced by security forces in Pakistan’s northwest, a region that has seen repeated strikes against police and military targets.
At least nine people were killed and four law enforcement officials injured after a blast struck Peshawar on Thursday, according to reports by DAWN. The Peshawar Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Mian Saeed’s office confirmed the incident, adding that the attack specifically targeted police officials.
“Initial investigation shows that the device that caused the blast was planted on the route of a police mobile,” Mian Saeed was quoted as saying by DAWN. The injured were rushed to a nearby medical facility by rescue services and remain in critical condition.
Following the explosion, security forces quickly arrived at the scene and sealed off the area. Senior Superintendent of Police (Operations) Masood Bangash stated that officers had initiated a detailed probe, with teams collecting evidence from the site. Investigations are ongoing to determine whether a remote-controlled device or an improvised explosive device (IED) was used in the blast.
This attack highlights the ongoing threats faced by security personnel in Pakistan’s northwest, a region that has witnessed several attacks against police and military targets in recent years. Notably, this is not the first such incident in recent weeks.
On 30 September, a powerful explosion ripped through a busy street in Quetta, the capital of Balochistan, near the Frontier Corps (FC) headquarters. That blast killed at least 10 people and injured 32 others, according to local reports.
Thursday’s attack in Peshawar has once again raised alarms over the safety of security personnel and the continuing challenge of militancy in the region. Authorities have not yet released further details on who may be behind the incident, but investigations are ongoing.
