**Assam CM Seeks Singapore’s Help in Zubeen Garg’s Death Case**

The Assam government has formally requested the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to invoke the Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty (MLAT) with Singapore following the recent death of renowned singer Zubeen Garg, aged 52. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced this on Monday, emphasizing that activating the treaty would ensure full cooperation from Singaporean authorities in the investigation.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the MLAT “facilitates cooperation between the two countries in criminal investigations and proceedings,” enabling authorities to share information and provide mutual legal support.

**Chief Minister’s Statement**

On X (formerly Twitter), CM Sarma wrote:
“The Govt of Assam has submitted a formal request to the Ministry of Home Affairs to invoke the Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty (MLAT) with Singapore in connection with the unfortunate demise of our beloved Zubeen Garg. Once invoked, this will ensure full cooperation from Singaporean authorities, giving us access to case details and assistance in extradition if necessary, to secure justice.”

**Investigation Efforts and Next Steps**

Following the invocation of the treaty, a special investigation team (SIT) from Assam will be dispatched to Singapore. This team will collaborate with local authorities, thoroughly examine the case evidence, and explore all legal avenues to ensure a transparent and comprehensive investigation.

The decision to pursue cooperation with Singapore comes amid growing public demand for clarity and justice in the case. Garg’s death has deeply impacted millions of fans across Assam and the broader Northeast India region.

**Family’s Plea for Justice**

Zubeen Garg passed away in Singapore due to drowning on September 19. His wife, Garima Saikia Garg, has called for a detailed inquiry into the circumstances surrounding his death. She raised concerns about why those present with him on the yacht failed to rescue him, especially considering his health condition and the possibility of an epileptic seizure.

Speaking to reporters after the 11th-day rituals held in Guwahati, Garima said, “I want justice! I want a proper inquiry and answers to all our questions.”
