Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), the luxury carmaker owned by India’s Tata Motors, is gradually restarting its manufacturing operations following a cyberattack earlier this month. The company operates three factories in Britain that collectively produce around 1,000 cars per day. However, the attack brought production to a halt, causing JLR to lose approximately £50 million ($68 million) weekly. As a result, many of its 33,000 employees have been asked to stay home.

According to three senior sources in the cyber insurance market, JLR had not finalized a cyber insurance agreement with Lockton before the attack. This potentially leaves the company without direct insurance coverage for this incident, complicating recovery efforts.

### Government Response and Industry Impact

In response to the crisis, British Business Minister Peter Kyle and Industry Minister Chris McDonald visited JLR on Tuesday to assess the situation, discuss the attack’s impact, and explore ways to resume production safely.

JLR, known for producing the Range Rover and Defender models, supports approximately 104,000 jobs across the UK through its extensive supply chains. The Unite trade union has warned of possible job losses resulting from the disruption and called on the government to provide support to help companies remain solvent.

Furthermore, a recent survey by S&P Global revealed a downturn in output within the UK manufacturing sector. Some factories indicated that JLR’s shutdown has adversely affected activity in the automotive supply chain, highlighting wider repercussions beyond JLR itself.
