Swami Chaitanyananda Saraswati, a self-styled godman and director of the Sri Sharada Institute of Indian Management in Delhi’s Vasant Kunj, has been arrested in Agra after being on the run for 50 days. He faces allegations of sexually harassing 17 women associated with the management institute.
The arrest took place around 3:30 AM at Hotel First in Taj Ganj, Agra.
### Charges Filed
The accusations against Saraswati include sending lewd text messages, using abusive language, and forcing physical contact on the victims. The initial complaint came from an alumnus of the Sri Sharada Institute who reported sexual harassment by Saraswati.
Further complaints surfaced via an email from a Group Captain in the Air Force Directorate of Education, detailing threats and offensive messages sent by Saraswati.
### Student Allegations
The students, many of whom were scholarship recipients from economically weaker backgrounds, claim they were introduced to Saraswati by institute wardens. According to the allegations, Saraswati lured them with promises of free foreign trips and secretly installed cameras in their hostel.
Following these disclosures, the ashram administration expelled Saraswati from his position. The unit he headed was affiliated with the Dakshinamnaya Sri Sharada Peetha in Sringeri, South India.
### Academic and Author Profile
Originally from Odisha, Saraswati claims a significant academic and literary profile. He is credited with authoring 28 books, including one reportedly featuring a foreword by Apple founder Steve Jobs and an appreciation message from former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon.
His author profile also states that former US President Barack Obama referenced Saraswati’s book *Transforming Personality* during his election campaign. Saraswati claims to hold an MBA and PhD from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, along with seven honorary Doctor of Letters (DLitt) degrees from various universities worldwide.
