Heavy rain continued into Saturday, with areas of Scottsdale, Phoenix, and Paradise Valley experiencing nearly an inch of rain in under an hour. The National Weather Service issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for the area during the 6 p.m. hour on Saturday. Additionally, Flash Flood Warnings are in effect until 10 p.m., extending north into Cave Creek and south to the town of Maricopa.

Temperatures dropped significantly following the precipitation, with Saturday’s high reaching just 85 degrees. On Sunday, temperatures are expected to warm up to 87 degrees as rain clouds begin to thin, leading to mostly sunny skies. Throughout the week, temperatures should continue to rise, culminating in an expected high of 98 degrees on Friday before cooling slightly to 95 degrees on Saturday.

### How Strong Was the Rain on Friday?

Flooding in Scottsdale on Friday night resulted in one fatality after a man was pinned under a bridge while delivering food. Although the storms on Saturday night were more concentrated in the Phoenix-Scottsdale corridor, Friday’s rain was more widespread. Both the east and west Valley saw some of the heaviest rainfall they have experienced in years.

Phoenix Sky Harbor recorded 1.64 inches of rain on Friday, marking its highest single-day rainfall total since October 13, 2018. Meanwhile, the heavy rain in Gila County, east of Maricopa County, caused severe flooding. In response, Mayor Al Gameros and Governor Katie Hobbs declared a state of emergency to address the situation.
