Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited’s (BSNL) indigenous ‘Swadeshi’ 4G network from Jharsuguda, Odisha. This milestone event coincides with BSNL’s silver jubilee celebrations and underscores the government’s commitment to promoting homegrown technology for critical infrastructure.

Alongside the launch, PM Modi commissioned over 97,500 mobile towers built by BSNL, including 92,600 sites equipped with the new 4G technology.

**Technological Advancement: A Major Step Toward Expanding Digital Connectivity**

The newly launched ‘Swadeshi’ 4G network marks a significant leap in expanding digital connectivity across India, especially in rural communities. This India-made, cloud-based network is future-ready and can be easily upgraded to support 5G technology. The rollout places India among countries like China, Denmark, South Korea, and Sweden, known for manufacturing indigenous telecom equipment.

**Connectivity Boost: Linking Over 26,700 Unconnected Villages**

The project is set to connect more than 26,700 previously unconnected villages, including 2,472 in Odisha alone. Many of these villages are situated in remote and border regions, where enhanced mobile connectivity is expected to greatly benefit local residents.

A standout feature of this initiative is the deployment of solar-powered towers, creating India’s largest cluster of green telecom sites. This approach not only boosts connectivity but also promotes sustainable infrastructure development nationwide.

**Future Plans: Semiconductor Park and Nationwide 4G Saturation**

Highlighting Odisha’s path toward prosperity in the coming decade, PM Modi announced plans to establish a semiconductor park in the resource-rich state.

Additionally, the Prime Minister launched India’s 100% 4G saturation network via the Digital Bharat Nidhi program. This mission-mode project aims to connect between 29,000 and 30,000 villages, further enhancing the country’s digital landscape.

The launch of BSNL’s ‘Swadeshi’ 4G network marks a pivotal moment in India’s telecommunications sector, strengthening indigenous capabilities and fostering inclusive connectivity across the nation.
