Prime Minister Narendra Modi has officially launched Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited’s (BSNL) ‘Swadeshi’ 4G network from Jharsuguda, Odisha, marking a significant milestone in the nation’s telecommunications sector. This launch coincides with BSNL’s silver jubilee celebrations and reflects the government’s strong emphasis on indigenous technology for critical infrastructure development.

Alongside unveiling the new network, PM Modi commissioned over 97,500 mobile towers constructed by BSNL, including 92,600 sites equipped with the latest 4G technology. This initiative represents a major step toward expanding digital connectivity across the country, particularly empowering rural communities.

### Technological Advancement and Future-Readiness

The ‘Swadeshi’ 4G network is India-made, cloud-based, and designed to be future-ready. Built with scalability in mind, it can be seamlessly upgraded to 5G in the near future, positioning India alongside countries like China, Denmark, South Korea, and Sweden, which manufacture their own indigenous telecom equipment.

This technological leap not only strengthens India’s digital infrastructure but also sets the foundation for BSNL’s upcoming 5G integration.

### Boosting Connectivity in Remote Areas

A core objective of this project is to enhance connectivity in underserved regions. The rollout aims to connect over 26,700 currently unconnected villages, including 2,472 in Odisha alone. Many of these locations are in remote and border areas, and improved mobile connectivity is expected to significantly impact social and economic development there.

Notably, the project incorporates solar-powered towers, creating India’s largest cluster of green telecom sites. This sustainable infrastructure approach aligns with broader efforts to promote environmentally friendly development practices.

### Future Plans and Vision for Odisha

During the launch, PM Modi highlighted the transformative potential of the coming decade for Odisha, predicting accelerated prosperity driven by technological advancements.

He also announced plans to establish a semiconductor park in Odisha, leveraging the state’s rich resources to boost the high-tech manufacturing ecosystem.

Furthermore, the Prime Minister inaugurated India’s 100% 4G saturation network via the Digital Bharat Nidhi initiative, aiming to connect between 29,000 and 30,000 villages in a mission-mode project, propelling digital inclusion to new heights across the nation.

The launch of BSNL’s ‘Swadeshi’ 4G network marks a momentous stride in India’s journey toward self-reliance in telecommunications, sustainable infrastructure, and inclusive digital growth.
