Prime Minister Narendra Modi has officially launched Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited’s (BSNL) ‘Swadeshi’ 4G network from Jharsuguda, Odisha. This significant event coincides with BSNL’s silver jubilee celebrations and underscores the government’s commitment to promoting indigenous technology for critical infrastructure.

Alongside the launch, PM Modi commissioned over 97,500 mobile towers established by BSNL, including 92,600 sites equipped with the new 4G technology. This marks a major technological advancement aimed at expanding digital connectivity across India.

### Technological Advancement: A Major Step Toward Expanding Digital Connectivity

The newly unveiled ‘Swadeshi’ 4G network represents a critical milestone in empowering rural communities through enhanced digital access. The India-made, cloud-based network is future-ready and can be seamlessly upgraded to 5G, setting the stage for BSNL’s upcoming 5G integration.

With this launch, India joins the ranks of nations such as China, Denmark, South Korea, and Sweden that manufacture indigenous telecom equipment, boosting national self-reliance in technology.

### Connectivity Boost: Connecting Over 26,700 Unconnected Villages

The project is poised to connect more than 26,700 previously unconnected villages, including 2,472 in Odisha alone. Many of these villages are located in remote and border areas where connectivity has traditionally been sparse.

A standout feature of this rollout is the use of solar-powered towers, forming India’s largest cluster of green telecom sites. This initiative highlights a dual commitment to sustainable infrastructure development and improved connectivity for underserved communities across the country.

### Future Plans: Semiconductor Park and Nationwide 4G Saturation

During the launch, PM Modi shared his vision for the coming decade, envisioning Odisha’s growth and prosperity fueled by technology and innovation. He announced plans to establish a semiconductor park in the resource-rich state, further strengthening India’s position in the global tech landscape.

Additionally, the Prime Minister launched India’s 100% 4G saturation network through the Digital Bharat Nidhi initiative. This mission-mode project aims to connect between 29,000 and 30,000 villages, ensuring comprehensive mobile coverage across the nation.

This monumental launch of BSNL’s ‘Swadeshi’ 4G network not only enhances India’s digital infrastructure but also champions the country’s strides toward technological self-sufficiency and sustainable development.
