Bihar`s 75 lakh women receive Rs 10,000 each as PM Modi launches scheme

The assistance provided under the new scheme can be utilized in areas of the beneficiary’s choice, including agriculture, animal husbandry, handicrafts, tailoring, weaving, and other small-scale enterprises.
The Prime Minister launched the scheme virtually from Delhi, with Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, his deputy Samrat Choudhary, and other ministers joining through video conference from Patna. A large number of women from the state also participated virtually, according to PTI.
The launch of this scheme holds particular significance ahead of the upcoming assembly polls in the state. An official statement highlighted, “Under the scheme, financial assistance will be provided to one woman from each family for livelihood activities of their choice, fostering economic independence and social empowerment.”
The assistance can be used in diverse sectors such as agriculture, animal husbandry, handicrafts, tailoring, weaving, and other small-scale enterprises, the statement added.
Describing the scheme further, it was noted that it is community-driven. Alongside financial support, community resource persons connected to self-help groups will provide training to support the women’s endeavors. To facilitate the sale of their produce, Gramin Haat bazaars will be further developed across the state.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, this initiative by the Government of Bihar aims to make women Aatmanirbhar (self-reliant) and promote women’s empowerment through self-employment and livelihood opportunities. By providing financial assistance to one woman from each family, the scheme enables them to start employment or livelihood activities of their choice, thereby fostering economic independence and social empowerment.
