**Bhopal Nursing Students Raise Concerns Over Poor Food Quality and Contaminated Water at BMHRC Hostel**

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Nursing students at Bhopal Memorial Hospital and Research Centre (BMHRC) on Thursday voiced serious concerns regarding the quality of food and drinking water in their hostel. This comes in the wake of a nursing student’s death four days ago due to illness, with four to five other students still battling serious health issues.

Following these incidents, a video highlighting the poor hostel conditions went viral on social media, prompting widespread questions about the arrangements provided to the students.

The students claimed they tested the drinking water themselves using a TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) meter, which revealed a reading of 703 ppm. This level exceeds the safe standards set by both the World Health Organization and the Bureau of Indian Standards, which recommend TDS levels between 300-600 ppm and a maximum of 500 ppm respectively. While a TDS level of 703 ppm is generally considered fair, it is not ideal for drinking water.

In response, Dr. Manisha Srivastav, Director in charge of BMHRC, stated that the same drinking water is supplied to both the residential complex and the nursing dormitory. She noted that no complaints related to water quality or illness had been reported from the residential complex, calling the claim of widespread illness among students “completely false.”

To address the students’ concerns, an RO water purifier has already been installed in the nursing dormitory, and three more RO purifiers are slated for installation soon for added convenience.

Furthermore, Dr. Srivastav announced that an inquiry committee would be formed to investigate the complaints raised by the nursing students.

The administration aims to ensure the health and safety of all residents as the inquiry proceeds.
