This 1990 Toyota 4Runner SR5 has been refinished in Cardinal Red and features a 3.4-liter 5VZ-FE V6 engine sourced from a later-model Japanese-market 4Runner. The engine swap was completed after the seller’s purchase in 2015. Power is delivered to the rear or all four wheels via a five-speed manual transmission paired with a dual-range transfer case.

Finished from the factory in Cardinal Red (3H7), the truck is said to have been repainted. The exterior includes a power sunroof and rear window, roof rails, running boards, mud flaps, and a receiver hitch. Note that the right-side running board is misaligned. It rides on 15″ alloy wheels wrapped with 31×10.50″ Westlake Radial SL309 tires that will need replacement soon. A covered spare tire is secured to a swing-away rear carrier. Braking is handled by front disc brakes and rear drums.

Inside, the manually adjustable front sport seats and rear bench are upholstered in gray cloth. The interior features include a CD/cassette stereo, a digital clock, rear heater, air conditioning, cruise control, and power windows, locks, and mirrors. The leather-wrapped steering wheel frames a 110-mph speedometer, a tachometer with a 5,750-rpm redline, and gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, voltage, and fuel level.

The dashboard has a noticeable crack, and there is a tear on the driver’s seat outer bolster. The six-digit odometer reads 266,000 miles, with approximately 2,000 miles added under the current ownership; however, the total mileage is unknown.

The 3.4-liter 5VZ-FE V6 engine was reportedly sourced from a 1996 Japanese-market 4Runner. Before installation in 2019, the engine received a replacement timing belt, catalytic converter, and various seals. The oil was last changed in February 2025.

This 4Runner passed the BAR inspection in April 2021 but has not had an emissions test since. It is currently registered as Planned Non-Operation (PNO) in California. The Carfax report indicates the vehicle is accident-free but reveals one open recall and the issuance of “Not Actual Mileage” California titles beginning in December 1998.

This 1990 Toyota 4Runner SR5 is offered at no reserve with a California title in the seller’s name, making it a solid candidate for enthusiasts seeking a classic SUV with manual transmission and solid off-road capability.
