20-year-old California cowboy wins PBR event at Toyota Arena in Ontario
Wyatt Vineyard, a 20-year-old from Lincoln, California, secured his first Professional Bull Riders (PBR) event win on Saturday night, January 17, at Toyota Arena in Ontario. Vineyard went 2-for-3 at the Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour PBR Ontario stop, clinching the victory in his home state.
After the first round on Friday night, January 16, Vineyard was already on the leaderboard. Hailing from Lincoln, a Northern California town near Auburn, he continued to impress. Following the second round on Saturday, he moved into the top spot.
“Heading into the championship round, Vineyard was laser-focused,” a PBR release stated. “As his home state fans cheered, he was the last man on the back of the chutes readying to ride.” He pushed hard but came down hard after just 2.73 seconds, according to the release.
Although the final round ride wasn’t successful, Vineyard’s 2-for-3 weekend was enough to secure the first event win of his PBR career. He earned 107 Velocity Global points and currently sits at No. 43 in the Velocity standings.
These points contribute to the Velocity Global Standings and help determine which new riders are added to the elite Unleash The Beast tour throughout the season, according to the release. The Top 3 Velocity Global riders not already qualified are also invited to the PBR World Finals in May.
Dione de Souza Ribeiro, from Nova Bandeirantes, Brazil, claimed second place for the weekend.
